Jun Xiao, jazz guitarist and composer from Dali, Yunnan Province in China. He received two most important music awards in China, Golden Melody Award (CGM, best instrumental album in 2017) and Chinese Music Award (CMA, best jazz album in 2017). His quintet was also selected as one of the finalists at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
Jun Xiao Quintet latest album called “Triple Prism”, has been recorded in New York in 2017 and released by Sony Music China. All eleven tracks are original compositions that were recorded in Brooklyn, New York. The album features respected musicians from the area including pianist Kevin Hays, bassist Rick Rosato, saxophonist Alex Lore, and drummer Jerad Lippi. „Triangular Prism” was mixed by three-time Grammy Award winner Dave Darlington. The original composition “When I Practice With A Bee” was selected as the soundtrack in the upcoming documentary of guitar legend John Abercrombie.
His mentors include John Abercrombie, Vic Juris, Rafał Sarnecki, Lage Lund, Brad Shepik, Charles Blenzig, Jon Faddis, John Riley, Kevin Hays, Andy La Verne, Doug Weiss, and Timothy Albright. Jun Xiao holds a bachelor’s degree from the Shanghai Conservatory and a Masters in Jazz Performance from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music. He is endorsed by american brands D’Addario and Corbin.
Jun has performed as a member of Shanghai Conservatory Big Band at the Shanghai Jazz Festival, also with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, and at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, accompanying world-renowned Broadway singers Michael Ball and Miss Saigon-Lea Salonga.
